| GAVIN PERRY |
Born in Philadelphia, Miami-based emerging artist Gavin Perry earned a B.F.A. in Painting and Printmaking at the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia, in 1996. His paintings and sculpture have been exhibited at the Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach, the Gulf Coast Museum of Art in Largo, FL., and the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, San Juan. Perry is represented in the collections of the Miami Art Museum and the Sagamore Hotel, Miami, among others.
Perry constructs his eye-popping works using brightly colored vinyl pinstriping tape, which he arranges into intricate, precisely calibrated geometric designs. Set against darkened backgrounds and embedded within thick, glossy resin, these collage-like images call to mind both minimalist abstractions and Op Art. Perry’s perfectionism and use of industrial materials to create slick, highly refined surface effects also reference the popular sub-culture of car customization.
