MICHAEL LOVELAND
Michael Loveland trained at Miami’s New World School of the Arts between 1989-91, and earned a B.F.A. degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, in 1994. He has exhibited his work at the Miami Art Museum, the Fredric Snitzer Gallery, Miami, and in 2007, was given a solo show at Diana Lowenstein Fine Arts, Miami, entitled Windows/Beautiful.

Using discarded scraps of fabric, metal and other ordinary objects and materials, Loveland creates collages in which the arrangements of colored shapes evoke his experience of the world. Dark Blue Flight and White Flight, both from 2003, are part of a small series inspired by the extensive air travel Loveland was then doing, specifically as he looked out the window at the plane wing and sky during flight. Loveland, who grew up near an airport, salvaged the aluminum used in this series from old DC-3 cargo aircrafts.
