Born in Tehran, Iran, Iran Issa-Khan fled her native country in 1977, and studied photography in the U.S. under the direction of William Minor, Jr. Over the course of the 1980s, Issa-Khan emerged as one of the leading fashion and celebrity photographers in the world, spearheading Paloma Picasso’s ad campaigns and photographing such celebrities as Nancy Reagan in the White House; the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough at Blenheim Palace; Rufino Tamayo in Mexico; and the Fendi and Ferragamo families in Italy. During this time, her photographs of supermodels also appeared on the covers and advertising pages of international fashion magazines, including Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Vogue and W. At the end of the 1990s, Issa-Khan turned to plants, flowers and natural objects for inspiration. Her exquisite, close-up studies of shells, leaves and flowers have been exhibited in solo shows in London, New York and Miami, where her studio is in the Design District. Issa-Khan’s work has been acquired by the Hotel Nash, Miami Beach, the Mondrian South Beach Hotel, and by many international collectors.
