Haitian born Miami-based photographer, installation and video artist Adler Guerrier earned a B.F.A. from New World School of the Arts, Miami, in 2000. He has exhibited his work at the Miami Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, and the Museo de Arte Moderno, Santo Domingo. He was also included in the 2001 Freestyle exhibition at the Studio Museum in Harlem as well as in 10 Floridians, held at Miami Art Central in 2003. Guerrier's work has been acquired for the permanent collections of the Miami Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, and the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York City, among others.
Guerrier is known for his installations of small color photographs which document the ordinary urban landscapes of Miami and New York. Camera in hand, he strolls through empty downtown streets, deserted parks, and other neighborhood locales, creating sets of images which map out his wanderings in time and space. Lyrically composed and with a fluid sense of transit, Guerrier's mysterious photos often include himself as a solitary wanderer, exploring his place within his environment.
In a Verdant Salon is a multi-panel photo installation showing a Miami park as it is entered and wandered through by the bicyclist/pedestrian artist. It was included in 10 Floridians, an exhibition held at Miami Art Central in 2003. One photo from In a Verdant Salon was illustrated in color in E. Turner, "Walker in the City,"ARTnews, September 2003, p. 110.
