ROBERT CHAMBERS
Born and raised in Miami, sculptor and installation artist Robert Chambers earned a B.F.A. from the University of Miami in 1983 and an M.A. from New York University in 1990. He has had solo shows at the Miami Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami and at SculptureCenter in New York City. A recipient of the Louis Comfort Tiffany and the Nancy Graves Foundation Awards, Chambers is represented in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Miami Art Museum, and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City.

Son of a cell biologist father and an artist mother, Chambers seeks to combine contemporary sculpture, modern science, and technology with non-traditional materials. He is best known for his imaginative installations and sculptures that move, make music, emit smells, change colors, and even interact with the viewer as they take on an exuberant, surreal life of their own. His work is also known for its off-beat materials and playful sense of humor: the 1996 installation, Blu, involved carnival bumper boats which filled up with foaming bubbles that gradually evaporated, as kitschy lamps blinked on and off around them.
